One of the best ways to use a pontoon boat is as a means of entertaining family and friends. Pontoons are perfect for parties because they’re spacious and open and extremely stable, so people can easily move around without falling over or becoming nauseated. Here are some great ways to plan a fun gathering on your pontoon boat.

Food & Drink

Obviously, the most important feature of any party is the food. Finger foods that are easy to prepare and consume without utensils are the best bet for a boat party. Cut up fruits and veggies at your house or while you’re docked and arrange them on plates or in bowls with a selection of dips. Crackers, chips, popcorn, and pretzels are other great party foods. You can also get a cheese and meat platter for a heartier snack.

As for drinks, a cooler filled with ice and cans or bottles of various beverages is probably the way to go. You could also prepare beverages like lemonade, iced tea, or punch that can be dispensed from a large plastic drink dispenser. Make sure you have plenty of ice and paper or plastic cups for everyone!

Decor

Adding some colorful decorations can make your pontoon boat party much more festive and photo-ready, so your passengers can get some great shots for Instagram. Paper garlands are a nice and lightweight way to decorate your boat’s T-top or cabin, while your table can have a fun tablecloth with patterned paper plates and napkins. Window stickers or window markers can be used to write on windows or other surfaces that can be easily cleaned up. Just make sure that none of your decor falls into the water so that you’re not littering.

Amusement

Keeping your passengers entertained takes more than food and decor. You should plan some fun activities in addition to providing some background entertainment. Assembling a peppy party playlist that you can play through a Bluetooth® speaker can help set a mood and get people relaxed and ready to dance and enjoy themselves.

Tidying Up

Of course, you don’t want your boat to end up a huge mess when the party’s over. Plan ahead by bringing some trash bags to collect recycling and trash and make sure that these are secured so they don’t blow away. A bottle of all-surface cleaner and a roll of paper towels can help you wipe down surfaces and clean up spills. Hand sanitizer is good to keep people’s hands clean. A broom and dustpan can help you sweep up any detritus on the deck.
